The Great North Woods is more than just a place name. It's an attitude, a state of mind, an area of New Hampshire where the land defines the people: tough, self-reliant, independent, flinty, sparse; hard working.
For legions of visitors, the region is one of unparalleled beauty and open access (the region boasts more miles of snowmachine trails than state highways).
Many of its best places remain remote and untrammeled by crowds, areas where effort and knowledge are rewarded with priceless experiences whether your passion is rock or ice climbing, fly-fishing, back-country camping, fine dining, boating, hiking or bird watching; snowmobiling or just moseying in small shops and eavesdropping on authentic Yankee dialect.
In the south west corner bordering the Connecticut River and Vermont is the Northern Gateway Chamber headquartered in Lancaster servicing the lower river valley towns
To the north is North Country Chamber of Commerce which operates out of Colebrook and services the Headwaters, Connecticut Lakes towns
To the Northeast is the Umbagog Area Chamber of Commerce centered in Erroll and servicing Lake Umbagog, Magalloway and Androscoggin Rivers and 13 Mile Woods
to the south is the Androscoggin Valley Chamber Of Commerce Representing Berlin, Dummer, Gorham, Jefferson, Milan, Randolph, and Shelburne, New Hampshire.

Temperatures range from the ridiculously low (minus 44 degrees this January) to high 90s at the peak summer days. (No! Summer is not just three days long as some have suggested).
So roll out the maps, plan a trip, pack the car and come up to the Great North Woods for the fun of it and explore those magical, unspoiled areas that we call New Hampshire as it used to be.

Many of us who live here play here. We're engaged in many of the same pursuits that draw you to our peaks, lakes, rivers, trails and forests. The Great North Woods is the way New Hampshire used to be; neighborly, accessible, secure, uncomplicated, rewarding.
It goes without saying it's a great place to raise a family, to build a small business, to recreate, or to retire.
