The Great North Woods is more than just a place name. It's an attitude, a state of mind, an area of New Hampshire where the land defines the people: tough, self-reliant, independent, flinty, sparse; hard working.

Millsfield CascadeFor legions of visitors, the region is one of unparalleled beauty and open access (the region boasts more miles of snowmachine trails than state highways).

Many of its best places remain remote and untrammeled by crowds, areas where effort and knowledge are rewarded with priceless experiences whether your passion is rock or ice climbing, fly-fishing, back-country camping, fine dining, boating, hiking or bird watching; snowmobiling or just moseying in small shops and eavesdropping on authentic Yankee dialect.

Amidst an area of boundless forests the denizens of this region enjoy true four season splendor...
(throw in mud and hunting season for a six-season year).

Temperatures range from the ridiculously low (minus 44 degrees this January) to high 90s at the peak summer days. (No! Summer is not just three days long as some have suggested).

So roll out the maps, plan a trip, pack the car and come up to the Great North Woods for the fun of it and explore those magical, unspoiled areas that we call New Hampshire as it used to be.
